A Sky Full of Stars

The song “A Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay is a song showing the hope, illusion and fear that comes with love. We can see the bright side of love when it is referred to as a “sky full of stars.” The sky is used as a metaphor to show just how beautiful the girl is that he is talking about. He follows this line by saying, “cause you light up the path,” representing that she has guided him to happiness. Later in the song he talks about how she has ripped him apart yet he is still in love with her as shown when he says, “‘Cause in a sky, ’cause in a sky full of stars I think I saw you,” referring to how in the night sky when he looks into the constellation it reminds him of this beautiful girl. In the song, he seems overjoyed while singing this part of the song, which shows us just how happy he is to be able to see her even though she isn’t actually there. We continue to see his illusions later in the song as he sings, “I’m gonna give you my heart, oh,” here we can see that even though he understands that she will not love him back, he will still continue to. For him, he just needs someone to love, and he’ll be alright. Illusions are more than enough for him to be happy. At the end of the song, he relates to the sky full of stars and refers to them as a “heavenly view,” which shows us that he is separating himself from the girl whom he loves. The sky full of stars will never truly be with him, and it will never be for him. Although this heavenly view still makes him happy, even if he can never be with her.
